Not this one. Smarter Window runs on a long-lasting rechargeable battery and recharges over USB-C. The motor runs only a few seconds a day, so a charge goes a long way. Most electric window openers need a 24V supply run to the window, which is what makes them an electrician's job.
Casement and awning windows, the kinds you open with a crank, are supported now. Horizontal slider and double-hung windows have no crank to replace, so they need a different mechanism and are still in development.

Smarter Window is built on Matter over Thread and is designed to pair with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or Samsung SmartThings through a hub you already own, with no proprietary bridge and no cloud account. Matter certification happens before shipping. Home Assistant works too, but because it runs on a computer with no Thread radio of its own it needs a Thread border router: a USB dongle such as the Connect ZBT-1, or an existing border router on your network that it can share.
In climates with hot days and cool, dry nights, our simulation across 153 cities found automated night ventilation eliminates about 30 percent of annual air conditioning runtime, and as much as 68 percent in the best-suited metros. Smarter Window contains a radio and is subject to the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. Delivery to you is conditional upon successful completion of the applicable equipment authorization process. FCC rules do not address the applicability of consumer protection, contractual, or other provisions under federal or state law. If authorization is not successfully completed, we will cancel your reservation and refund everything you have paid.

Yes, right up until we start the production run. Email open@smarter-window.com and we'll refund the full $20 to your original payment method within 10 business days (usually much sooner). We'll give you at least 14 days' notice by email before production starts, so the window never closes on you unannounced. After that your $20 is spent on certification and manufacturing.
$40 less than the launch price, whatever it turns out to be. At the planned $279 launch price that is $239 per window: the $20 you pay today plus the balance charged when we go to production ($219 at the planned price), after two emails telling you it is coming. If it launches lower than planned, we refund the difference when sales open. If it launches higher, we tell you before shipping and you choose: pay the difference, or take a full refund.
Our current estimate is late 2027. If that changes, we'll email every reservation holder with the choice to keep waiting or take a full refund.
Only once enough people have reserved to pay for certification and a first production run. We'll email you at least 14 days before, then remind you again, and charge the card you reserved with on the date we gave you. Cancel any time before then and we will refund your $20. Because the run is already committed by then, we spend the balance on certification and manufacturing, so it isn't refundable on request. If you tell us within 14 days of the charge that you didn't want it, we'll refund it anyway.
It sits in an account separate from our operating funds and we don't spend it. That holds for as long as it is only a reservation. If you go on to pay the balance, your $20 joins it and both are spent on certification and manufacturing.
Certification and the first production run, along with your $20 deposit once you pay it. FCC, electrical safety, and Matter approval are fixed costs that have to be paid before a single unit can ship, and they don't get cheaper in small batches.
Before the production run starts, we refund your $20 in full, because we haven't spent it. After that both the deposit and the balance are committed to certification and manufacturing, and you are backing a real production run rather than holding a place in a queue. You still get everything back if the FCC process is not completed, if we cancel, or if we push the shipping estimate out and you would rather not wait. Our commitment is to refund you if we cannot deliver, but we would rather say plainly that this stage carries risk that the deposit stage does not. If that isn't a risk you want, stay on the free waitlist and buy one when it's on a shelf.
